Owlsbury and Ashdown Business Park Expansion: the fundamental dangers remains

Even though you may have object to the planning applications and to the earlier Regulation 18 Drafts of the Local Plan, Wealden have ignored these objections and are still advancing the allocation of these sites for development. So we have to object yet again – but this time to the Regulation 19 draft Local Plan allocations. Even if the planning applications are refused, the allocation of the land for development anyway means development will happen in the future.

If you objected before, please object again. Wealden needs to hear – clearly and in writing – you haven’t changed your mind. If you’re objecting for the first time, now’s the time.

Objections must be received by Wealden District Council by 5pm Sunday 1st November 2026. Use the templates below, personalise it, and send it today.

Before 1st November

Make sure you put the email heading to read Regulation 19 Draft Local Plan Objection

Template A – Owlsbury objection

Policy UCK11

Dear Sir/Madam,

An objection is being submitted to the proposed allocation of land at Owlsbury Farm.

The evidence does not demonstrate that the site is sound, sustainable or realistically deliverable under the National Planning Policy Framework 2026 . In particular:

– The site does not appropriately meet housing needs or represent the most suitable location.

– Reasonable alternative sites have not been properly considered.

– There are serious concerns about transport, accessibility and connectivity.

– Water, energy and other infrastructure requirements have not been adequately addressed.

– The development could cause significant harm to Ancient Woodland, Ashdown Forest, habitats, biodiversity and the landscape.

– The evidence does not demonstrate that these impacts can be adequately mitigated.

– Overall, the proposal would not deliver sustainable development.

Policy UCK11 should be removed from the Local Plan and Owlsbury Farm should not be allocated for development.

Yours faithfully,

Template B – Ashdown Business Park Expansion Objection

Policy MA EMP1

Dear Sir/Madam,

An objection is being submitted to the proposed extension of Ashdown Business Park, Maresfield.

The evidence does not show that the extension is necessary, sustainable or realistically deliverable under the National Planning Policy Framework 2026.

Key concerns include:

– The Council’s evidence for the need for additional employment land is flawed and has not properly considered alternative locations.

– Better-connected sites, particularly those closer to major roads and larger town centres, have not been adequately assessed.

– The proposal would increase traffic and does not meet sustainable transport requirements.

– Climate change, flooding and infrastructure issues have not been properly addressed.

– There are serious concerns about pollution and public safety, particularly PFAS contamination.

– The development could harm Ashdown Forest, local habitats and biodiversity.

The site should be removed from the Local Plan because it does not represent sustainable or justified development.

Yours faithfully,
